Objet : Afclix - Africa Climate Exchange

Dear Colleagues,

Over the last 12 months, we have been developing ideas on how to broker effective dialogue between the climate science community and the humanitarian and policy-making communities for sub-Saharan Africa. In December I launched the Africa Climate Exchange (Afclix) programme. The aim is to ensure that climate related decisions in the region for food security, can be made by access to the most relevant and recent climate science so we are working hard to build relationships between climate scientists and the policy-making communities (government and NGOs) for Africa through exchange fora and other "feet-on-the-(African) ground" activities. The underpinning Afclix portal is now open for business:  www.afclix.org.

"Afclix.org is a meeting room, coffee-shop and a community hall...

A place for professionals to exchange knowledge and ideas on the whole spectrum of challenges raised by today's climate in Africa."

The Afclix portal underpins these ground-based exchange activities (initially in Senegal and Sudan, but extending to other Sub-Saharan countries over the next year) and we would be delighted for anyone with an interest in African climate science to join the conversation in the new "African coffee room" and get involved at the beginning, ou new "African coffee room". It's really quick to sign-up. Just go to www.afclix.org and click on the "register" button, then fill out and submit the very short form. You'll then receive an email with further brief instructions. Once you have been verified and given access to the site, you can go about filling your profile and letting everyone know who you are, as well as joining in the conversation.

Here are some of the things you can do on Afclix:
- post links back to your own educational institutes and research programmes
- create project website, add colleagues as collaborators and upload files, add links, post news
- post open access papers (crucial to our African colleagues), news, info on upcoming opportunitiesjobs and conferences - and vice versa
- share links to education resources (see a project called 'Building Bridges')
develop connections with colleagues for new multidisciplinary collaborations
- become followers of people or projects
collaborate on other project pages

**Note - to be able to collaborate on any projects that you haven't set up, simply become a follower and then the project founder can accept you as a collaborator where appropriate - this enables you to upload files, post news for that project **

If you have any problems or questions, then please don't hesitate to drop an email to the admin team (mailto:afclix@afclix.org) and if you have any feedback on the portal, or suggestions for its ongoing design in support of the work, we'd love to hear them - either post them on Afclix, or email me mailto:ros.cornforth@afclix.org directly.

Many thanks and best wishes,

Rosalind
